1878-1901: Toronto Industrial Exhibition
This period saw the study area transition from a pastoral landscape to an exhibition grounds. The 1878 annual provincial agricultural fair hosted by the City of Toronto spurred the introduction of the first exhibition buildings to the study area. While none of these buildings remain, the general siting of the exhibit halls, agricultural buildings and entertainment and sports facilities established a usage pattern on the site that is still discernible today.
